EXIT SLIPS

I used exit slips after discussing them in class and in methods. I gave students a piece of paper with two questions on it with about 5 minutes left of class. I asked my Personal Finance class to answer these questions:

1. What did you learn that was new today?

2. What do you not know about the stock market that you would like to know more about?

I was a little concerned that I would get phony answers from the students because often times it is really hard to motivate them to do anything, let alone get out a pencil to write with. I told them they couldnt' leave the class until they handed me the slip on the way out the door. I was suprised by the answers I received. It was great to see all the things they wanted to know about the stock market. It helped me to know what to teach them next. This meant that I was going to have to do some research myself, because there were great comments.

Exit Slips worked really well for me and I suggest you all try it!

  1. I agree with you that exit slips work great! That is a strategy that will be a regular in my classrooms. I tried entrance slips and those didn't go over nearly as well.

  2. You didn't waste the last few minutes of your teaching time. WOW. Plus you get to keep learning to you can keep bringing new information to your students. What a win win motivator.

  3. What a great way to get students involved. Maybe you can spend the first few minutes of each day addressing one or two of the questions. This will help the students to stay involved and show them real world applications to the material they are learning in class. In addition, I think it is a great way to push yourself and make sure you are continuously learning and keeping up with current events.

  4. Exit slips are a great way to retain information from what was taught in class. If a student can remember one piece of information from class then they have expanded their knowledge. If a student is interested in additional knowledge on a topic then it is up to the teacher to help them acquire and expand this knowledge. When students are interested in a topic it will always enhance their learning.
