Haven't tried it...Fishbowl Discussions

I would really like to try the fishbowl discussions. I haven't tried it, but when we do this in our EOU classes they go over really well. I think that getting students to cooperate at times would be hard, but I think overall this is a great way for student to learn. Not only learning is taking place, but students are able to use communication skills with their neighbor and then as a group.

I think this strategy would add something new to the classroom and there are many issues that need to be discussed throughout the semester in Business.

  1. I'm not sure I know what "fishbowl discussions" actually entails but sounds like it would be spontaneous responses to an issue inviting various opinions for discussion. I agree, it would be both a learning experience and a lesson in developing good communication skills in group setting. (Hope I understood the concept) Good job Liz..

Since your students will be paying, for the rest of their lives, the bail out of the banking system, the AIG fiasco it seems this would be a great topic for the Fishbowl. They would learn about "Mark to Market", Credit Deefault Swaps", " Housing Bubble," "Stock Market" and in general touch on all Business areas. More importantly they will learn about "Greed" and what it does to our financial system. Just a Thought!
