Strategy Observation

I have enjoyed doing observation of other teachers at Imbler High School. I have really enjoyed seeing the difference in teaching from classroom to classroom. I sat in on a Advanced Math class and really enjoyed it. (I actually LOVE math!)

Anyways, after going through problems, the students were told to work on their homework assignment until the bell rang or they were given the option to work on their project. Immediately most students pulled at these blue print (their project) and begin working on that. I was curious what they were working on, so I asked the teacher what their project was. They were designing a bridge by finding angles and many other things. It was a real life bridge that the actual teacher had built that summer and when they finished he would show them his blue print and compare. This was an extensive project that was going to be going on throughout the entire semester and they only had their free time to work on it. It was a really neat project especially since the students were actually related math to what they would possibly use what they are learning during that class in a future job.

  1. That sounds like a very intense project for the students. I have actually sat in on some math classes and enjoyed them as well. It must be a business thing, haha. It would be interesting to see how the blueprints turn out for the students.

  2. What a great idea. I remember you talking to me about this project and how excited you were to see what this teacher had the studends doing. It sounds like it was too advanced for students of this level, but I love the fact he was "challenging" them beyond there level. Push them up.

  3. Sounds like you are willing to put a little extra effort in to maximize your students classroom time. You are going to be such a great teacher!

  4. I agree about learning from observation. I have seen some really enthusiastic teachers at my school who are both professional and engaging at the same time. And some of them have been teaching for over thirty years. They inspire me everytime I sit in on a class. It looks easy when they are doing it. Lots of these teachers I actually went to high school with, and they are getting ready to retire. But they are so supportive of me as a student, it is obvious that they were supposed to be teachers. I can only hope that I can be as good a teacher as they are. (even if I am getting a bit of a late start)
